Mad Dog Ski: Ski Resort guidebooks for Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland

Lech - Austria

The quintessential chocolate-box perfect Alpine village with luxurious hotels and restaurants housed in original buildings and set on either side of the river. Lech is for those who appreciate well-groomed, snow-sure cruisy slopes, traditional Alpine atmosphere and are content to enjoy a winter holiday in pampered comfort and style; but you’ll have to dig deep into your pockets.

The off-piste is the main attraction for the more experienced as black runs are nonexistent, so we’d recommend taking a guide (see on the piste). Where Lech shines is for those skiers and boarders who want uncrowded slopes with pretty scenery. The main nursery slope is in Oberlech, just above Lech, and unless confident, the blue runs back to the village are rather too steep for nervous beginners.
Surprisingly for such a resort, car traffic is heavy in and around the main street and at times really spoils the feel. With lively après ski activities in the chic bars located near the town centre, the night bus service handily runs until 4 am, (especially useful  if you start your evening at the après ski Champagne Bar of the Hotel Montana).

Lech is perfect for the fair weather skier who enjoys the lively après and strolling as much as the winter sports.
