Mad Dog Ski: Ski Resort guidebooks for Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland

Zurs - Austria

As one of the world’s best kept secrets, this sleepy hamlet is to all intents and purposes a cluster of luxury hotels hidden on the slopes away from the maddening crowd where the mega wealthy come to enjoy skiing and boarding, spas, fine dining and an exclusive après.

At first glance it would be easy to think that this village, with a few token buildings on the side of a road is the poor relative to Lech please add link only 10km away.

Skiing is extensive with sound snow reliability and beautiful scenery. Whilst best suited to intermediates, experts have plenty of off-piste to explore and a greater range of challenging runs than in Lech. There are also good nursery slopes for beginners but the jump up to blue runs can be frustrating.  So exclusive is the resort that numbers on the slopes at any one time are restricted - allowing those with the privilege to enjoy uncrowded pistes and queue free lifts.

Zürs is a yet more upmarket hideaway than Lech itself which, in comparison, has sacrificed itself to tourists. Zürs wouldn't dream of it…
