The most Southerly French resort, barely an hour and a half’s drive from Nice nestles in panoramic pine forest in a National park between the Mediterranean and Italy. On clear days views down to the coast or north towards the Matterhorn are possible.
It’s this proximity to the Riviera that determines the typical character of the resorts clientele, ‘le weekend’ jet-set, who drive up for a days’ skiing before returning for beach-front dining. For this reason the potentially lively après heads down the mountain with them. However, with a good snow and sunshine record (well, this is the south of France) there’s plenty to enjoy on the often tranquil mid-week pistes.
The resort offer many of the usual après and daytime alpine activities are including an ice track on which to hone your ice driving skills in either your own or (we recommend) a rented vehicle. The AquaVallee centre, below the resort, offers extensive leisure facilities including spa and swimming.
The old village of Isola still charms and must be one of the few places where a morning ski followed by an afternoon of water skiing is a distinct possibility.
