Mad Dog Ski: Ski Resort guidebooks for Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland

La Tania - France

La Tania was built to house judges for the 1992 Olympics and the ugly central apartment blocks still remain. Clusters of pretty chalets have sprung up around them over the last 20 years and now La Tania is a big favourite with families and as a great base for exploring the Three Valleys

La Tania was designed with strong environmental and ecological considerations in mind. Chalets are dissected by the two main runs back into the resort and ski in ski out is often possible even at this 1350m elevation as the trees provide shade and shelter from the wind. Absolute beginners will find the blue back to resort (Folyeres) a little daunting though you can always catch the gondola.

Facilities in the resort are limited but the luxury boutiques of Courchevel can do serious damage to the credit card but at least the bus ride there is free. La Tania has a different tourist office to the other Courchevel villages and the bus is less frequent but adventurous pedestrians can also get there via the lift system and a healthy walk along a few flattish pistes.

The nightlife in La Tania may be limited but it’s lively. For easy access to the Three Valleys, La Tania offers an affordable, comfortable and appealing alternative.
