St Martin de Belleville - France

This old village, just down the valley from Les Menuires, provides an alternative base to the ‘mega-resorts’ of the Trois Vallees from which to explore and enjoy the world’s largest linked ski area.

St Martin sits on a sunny west facing slope which makes it a positive sun trap. Whilst this can leave pistes into the village without snow at the beginning and end of the season, the lift system out of the village makes up for this. The village’s immediate slopes aren’t particularly friendly to the absolute beginner but they’re lovely for the early intermediate with cruisy blues and reds in abundance. Riders will have to lift it up to above Les Menuires for a terrain park.

More recent developments in St Martin have been sympathetic to the original character of the village, typified by the pretty church which is attractively lit at night. It is this character that attracts many lunchtime visitors to the villages’ restaurants from the resorts around so try and avoid the post lunch lift queues. This is not your resort if you're looking for varied and lively night life but if you want the fabulous skiing of the three valleys without sacrificing a more traditional alpine feel, then St Martin de Belleville is real winner.
