Mad Dog Ski: Ski Resort guidebooks for Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland

Livigno - Italy

Set high in the heart of the Alps this remote resort is three small villages (San Antonio, Santa Maria and San Rocco) that have been joined together to create one long street of restaurants, bars, supermarkets, specialist stores, hotels and apartments.

Livigno still maintains a traditional Alpine appearance with a friendly, lively feel. Free buses provide relatively reliable access from one end of the village to the other, but be sure not to get caught out as they stop mid-evening.
Impressive modern lift systems access the reliable snowy mountains on both sides of the valley which are more extensive than other budget destinations. The piste map shows a few black runs but in reality they’re no harder than a steep red and the vast selection of other gentler slopes make this destination first-rate for novices.
Because of its location, transfers can be lengthy(up to five hours from Bergamo, less from Innsbruck) but once in resort it’s up to you... either heading up the slopes or making  the most of the duty free shopping deals on offer. Livigno makes no claims to sophistication or about being a jet set destination. It is simply a good value, good fun, "let’s do it" type of ski resort.
