St Moritz is simply the most famous of all Swiss resorts; for the infamous Cresta run (still forbidden to the fairer sex – presumably in case we break a nail or two); host to the Winter Olympics not just once but twice ; some the most renowned hotels in the ski world and some pretty good skiing too.
St Moritz offers a five star experience on and off the slopes as well as an average 322 days of sunshine a year. A glance at the piste map will tell you that St Moritz isn't the first choice for expert skiers but there’s plenty of off-piste that doesn’t get tracked as rapidly as many other major off-piste destinations. Intermediates are well served by uncomplicated reds and for beginners, there’s the Corviglia or Salastrains slopes albeit with no easy links between them. At times the strong sun can leave pistes bare and prone to moguls but generally the snow is good with pistes well groomed and backed up by comprehensive snowmaking.
Though not an obvious budget destination, St Moritz is still a great location and the spectacular setting beside the frozen lake, the panorama of the surrounding mountains and the brag factor in the name alone will make you stay a memorable experience.
